The Way of the Mysterial Woman
This week’s Reading: Introduction, Pp. 1-12
Cheryl’s post:
Reverend Abigail selected this book for SisterSpirit this year, and may even use it again next year, because we liked it so much. It has always been the vision of SisterSpirit to assist women in recognizing and acting upon their magnificence. This book speaks to that vision.
I like this historical perspective about changes that are happening nationally and globally for women in leadership roles. The book promises to share ideas about why these changes are happening from spiritual and evolutionary perspectives.
I found it refreshing that the authors stated that they are not men-bashing but looking at what is working and not working in our current “hypermasculine” society. What is needed is not rejection of men, but a balancing of Masculine and Feminine energies. I personally am tired of the “reject others who do not think like me” mentality. I welcome civil dialogue and interesting conversation.
Like the authors, I, too, grew up in the ‘60s and ‘70s. The Stay-at-Home Mom role presented by my mother felt stifling and limited. I was bright and curious about the world and pursued the more masculine option of a professional career. That, however, has had its drawbacks, too. I have never been able to figure out why people trained in healthcare and committed to helping and caring for others, engage in cutthroat interpersonal interactions and office politics. It has been a far cry from the peaceable helping profession I thought I was entering.
Questions
- As we start reading this book, take a moment to think about what your intention is for this experience? Where are you starting from and where do you want to go?
- Have you had the experience like the authors and myself of feeling dissatisfied with the previous feminine roles offered you, and the masculine ones taken?
Exercises
- Get yourself a designated notebook or folder on your computer where you can write about the things you read, and the thoughts that spring to mind. If you are like me, you have brilliant ideas while reading that are quickly forgotten a week later when you want to share them with others. 😊
